When you buy a piece of hardware you get some kind of warranty. Now, there's a whole lot that can happen with your hardware, like launching it from the roof of your house, that is not covered by the warranty. Nevertheless, people try to convince the seller the incident was not their fault, however bizzarre and/or obvious it may be. An interesting article over at Mac Geekery discusses the problems that an Apple Store Genius has to deal with when people try to get something that was their fault fixed under the warranty.
